Learning Happiness

Recently I wrote a post about my new grand daughter, Isabella Rae Lerma. She is perfect, right now, as we all are, in our true essence.

When it comes to our essence and who we really are, there is nothing to criticize, condemn or judge. "Bella" is ten weeks old now and I haven't heard a word of criticism from her parents, from us or anyone else.

It's through criticism and judgement that we learn to criticize and judge ourselves. The judgement we pass on ourselves then becomes the foundation we create our life from.

Nathaniel Branden, Ph.D. tells us, “Of all the judgments we pass in life, none is more important than the judgment we pass on ourselves.”

What would happen if you learned how to give yourself unconditional support when you needed it the most? What if you discovered that your behaviors, what you do, is not who you are and learned to support yourself rather than judge yourself to be lacking in some way?

Then you could experiment in life more, unafraid of the mistakes you make, big or small.

Go ahead and make mistakes, even big ones. Feel free to fail in an epic way. Your mistakes and failures are not who you are. They are simply a behavior or sequence of behaviors that culminated in a result.

Any result you have created in life to this point is just a result--it's not you. When you really internalize that fact, the sun will break through the clouds and light your way.

If we want the sun to come out more, we have to remember who we are and that we are not our behaviors. We are not what we do. We are who we are in our perfect essence.

What if you nurtured your inner essence and let yourself be who you are, just a little bit more?

You can do that by offering yourself unconditional support. Every time you criticize yourself, replace that criticism with three positives of some kind. Remind yourself of three strengths or of three times you shined in some way.

When you shine, that's a behavior showing up in some way, and no, you are not your behaviors--even the positive ones. Yet, your positive behaviors come from you, your inner essence.
